‘The Big Wave’, Adelong

Location: Adelong Creek Walk, Adelong.

Statement: This sculpture celebrates the act of riding a wave. The pigmented concrete colours correspond to the colours I associate with the elements of a big wave; white (seafoam), beige (sand), turquoise (shallow water), marine blue (deep water).

Biography: Shaumyika Sharma is an architect who has worked in the field of architecture in the US, the UK, Australia, Singapore and India for over 15 years. Her most extensive experience has been at architecture practices in London, and she has also taught architecture and interior design at the National University of Singapore, Cooper Union and NYU. Her art (film and photography) has received critical acclaim in New York and Singapore. She holds a Master’s (Advanced Architectural Design) from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture (with Honours) from the University of Western Australia and completed her professional registration at The Bartlett, UCL, London.

Sharma has exhibited extensively internationally including Dubai, Germany, Singapore, Turkey and USA, as well as Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in 2019, 2020, and 2024.


Stage one of the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail was jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
