We are delighted to announce that the 2026 Tourism Western Australia Invited International Artist is Dr Subodh Kerkar from India, and the 2026 Tourism Western Australia Invited Aboriginal Artist is Noongar woman, Karla Hart.

Dr Subodh Kerkar from India

Tourism Western Australia Invited International Artist

Dr. Subodh Kerkar is the Founding Director of Museum of Goa and currently holds the Mario Miranda Chair as a Visiting Research Professor at Goa University. Kerkar’s work celebrates the inseparability of coastal life with the environment and the role of the ocean as the medium of cultural diffusions.

As the Tourism Western Australia Invited International Artist, Dr. Kerkar will produce and stage Ocean Odyssey, four visually unique and colourful performance installations with participation by over 100 individuals.

Noongar Artist, Karla Hart

Tourism Western Australia Invited Aboriginal Artist

A proud Noongar woman, Karla Hart was raised on Goreng country in Western Australia’s Great Southern.  She is a multi-award-winning artist, filmmaker, actor, musician, performer, speaker and teacher. It is through her connection to her country and culture that has inspired every aspect of her work and commitment to the sharing of First Nations stories.

Since 2007, Hart has managed and performed with the Noongar women’s dance group Kwarbah Djookian, and has taught Noongar dance and song to thousands of people in community groups and schools across Western Australia.

As the Tourism WA Invited Aboriginal artist, live performances of ‘Wardarn Dreaming’ will be presented by Karla Hart and Kwarbah Djookian (‘Beautiful Sisters’).

‘Wardarn Dreaming’, meaning “dreaming of the ocean, our connection to it, the spirit of the ocean, and all that it provides for us” is a culturally rich and immersive performance celebrating the connection of Nyoongar people to the ocean.  To be performed during the exhibition, it will bring together powerful dance, song, a skilled didgeridoo player, performers adorned with body paint, and an evocative ocean soundscape with language chanting.

‘Wardarn Dreaming’ will undoubtedly create a deeply engaging cultural experience on Cottesloe Beach for all visitors to Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe.

We welcome you to attend the performances to take place at the following times:

Sunday 8 March at 6.15pm
Sunday 22 March at 5.30pm
