Many visitors to this year’s Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2023 enjoyed the light sculpture by the Tourism Western Australia’s International Invited Artist Takeshi Tanabe.

The meaningful poem engraved on Takeshi Tanabe’s, ‘Between Earth and Sky (Exchanging Messages)’ allowed visitors to appreciate the artistic intention behind the work, which was amplified when the artwork pierced the night sky with a vertical 2km light beam.

Let us look beyond this light.

Let us look back to the birth of our planet Earth,

And to how we human beings have walked upon it.

Now, let us look far beyond that light.

Let us consider both the direction humanity is taking,

and how we would wish the world to be

in the far distant future.

Takeshi Tanabe

Takeshi Tanabe was one of 71 artists who exhibited at this year’s exhibition. Thank you also to the Principal Sponsors of Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2023 Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill for supporting all the artists.
