Emerging from the unforeseen events and restrictions of COVID-19 in 2020, we are offering for the first time the opportunity for schools and students to have artists who have exhibited in Sculpture by the Sea and educators to come into their classrooms to conduct informative, stimulating and multi-sensory sculpture making workshops.

Thanks to the Bondi exhibition’s Principal Sponsor Aqualand, and the Patron of the Schools Program The Caledonia Foundation, amongst others, who are making the visits to the schools possible and are providing a unique opportunity for students. Offering sculpture making workshops at their schools, in some of the areas worst affected by the bushfires and across Sydney.

Students will meet and work with an Artist and actively explore material, themes and sculpture-making skills based on the artists’ ideas, processes, and creative practice.

The workshops with artists will be carefully designed in collaboration with the teachers involved to meet the needs and interests of the students, and will include a workshop outline, materials, techniques to explore and outcomes.

Our workshop programs encourage participants to explore, examine and discuss a range of creative, conceptual, and artistic responses to site and landscape, form and ideas. It provides unique opportunities to meet and work with exhibiting Artists. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities- from abstracting landscapes into shapes and colours, to making pinch pots whilst reflecting on context and meaning in the program.

Artists from the next Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi exhibition Joel Adler, Linda Bowden, Mimi Dennett, Sally Kidall, Caroline Kronenberg and Barbara Licha, plus previous artists Jane Gillings, Christine Simpson and Katie Stewart will be hosting workshops.
