The Ukrainian City of Mariupol was planning a unique Sculpture exhibition in association with Sculpture by the Sea in August last year that did not proceed due to increased Russian military activity on the previous ceasefire border 15km away.
The Mariupol exhibition organiser Kateryna Taylor, of the Kyiv based Port Agency – now a refugee on the western border of Ukraine – is coordinating the international ‘Artists Support Ukraine’.
The 18m x 12m Ukrainian flag was unfurled and held high among the sculptures on Cottesloe beach by artists from across Australia and members of Perth’s Ukrainian community on Sunday 6 March 2022. The flag has been donated to the Ukrainian community in Perth.
“Today we joined with artists and people around the world as part of the international chorus of condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said David Handley, Sculpture by the Sea Founding CEO & Artistic Director.
As the crisis in Ukraine escalates UNHCR needs your help to provide immediate protection and shelter for those forced to flee their homes.
