Unfortunately, this artwork will not be installed in time to be exhibited at this year’s exhibition, however, we hope you will come back and see it when you visit Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2025 next year.
A message from the Artist, Yi Cui (China):
Materials stone, rebars, weathering steel, stainless steel, mixed materials
Dimensions 263 x 500 x 206 cm
People are curious about this artwork sitting on Tamarama Beach waiting to be installed. It is part of the work that Cui Yi exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2017. Cui Yi uses steel bars recycled from the ruins to create imagery of life and growth. From Bondi to Cottesloe, from Cottesloe to Granite Island, and from Granite Island back to Bondi, as the work travels across Australia, it gives the artist the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Australia, a multicultural immigrant country.
This year is her sixth time participating in Sculpture by the Sea. Due to storms in China and India, the freight channel of several sculptures was delayed. Cui Yi’s work is one of them. Unfortunately, the upper half shipped from China could not be installed in this year’s exhibition.
Next year, the artist will invite the public and community to participate and witness the new transformation of this stone from China in the Sculpture by the Sea Bondi, 2025 in Tamarama Beach. Thank you for your support!
Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi
