Posted: November 20, 2015 / News

After much deliberation from our panel of judges (Pauly Vella, Jarrad Seng, Jessica Wyld, Clyde Yee & Gareth Carr), we are excited to reveal that the winner of the 2015 Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi #sxsmoments photo competition is Rohan Hinton (@infinityimagined8) of Erskineville, NSW for his photo of Barbara Licha’s ‘listen time passes‘! Rohan receives 1 return flight to Perth, 3 nightʼs accommodation during Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2016 and the opportunity to be one of our official exhibition photographers for a day.

The first runner up is @haydenrjw for his photo of Lawrence Edward’s sculpture ‘crouching man’. He receives a QT Sydney Hotel package consisting of Accommodation in a QT King Deluxe room for 2 consecutive nights and breakfast daily for two at Gowings Bar and Grill!

The second runner up is @david_wimble for his photo of Peter Lundberg’s sculpture ‘open‘. He receives a $300 voucher to spend at the wonderful Dinosaur Designs!

Rohan said to the Sculpture by the Sea team upon hearing the news that his photo won this year:

“I would like to thank Sculpture by the Sea who for the hard work they invest every year so we can admire such beautiful artworks, and all the artists who poured their passion into their sculptures. I would also like to thank all of the incredible photographers I know who have inspired me to push my limits and whom without I would not have taken this photo. This years’ works were wonderfully thought provoking and it was impossible not to get taken away while absorbing each artist’s story. I try to approach the sculptures with a sense of wonderment, to show them either at one or odds with the world we live in and our day-to-day experiences. This year that meant heading out late at night, in the middle of a storm to capture listen time passes by Barbara Licha as it swayed under the storms wrath. There is something special about the night and early morning, when the world is quiet, and you can get closer to the sculptures. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to travel to Cottesloe next year, and hope I can capture unique and inspiring photos to share with you all.”

The standard of entries was so high that the judges had a very difficult job and it came right down to the wire to select which photos would win. So congratulations to the winner, runners ups, finalists and all who entered this year’s competition!

A special thank you to our sponsors QT Sydney & Dinosaur Designs for generously providing this year’s wonderful prizes.
