THE RIO TINTO SCULPTURE AWARD

The $50,000 Rio Tinto Sculpture Award, the most generous award for sculpture in Western Australia, was announced today by Chris Salisbury, Chief Executive of Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore group, has been awarded to Harsha Vardhan Durugadda of India for his work ‘Column of Sound‘ at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe. Rio Tinto, our Principal Partner, is gifting ‘Column of Sound‘ for permanent public placement to the City of Busselton.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN SCULPTOR SCHOLARSHIP

In 2016 the Western Australian Sculptor Scholarship of $10,000, donated by Gavin Bunning & Julienne Penny since 2013, was awarded to Denise Pepper from Bayswater, WA for Leaden Heart. The scholarship for travel, study and the advancement of the artist’s career includes an invitation to exhibit in Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.

All Western Australian artists with works appearing in Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe are eligible.

THE EY PEOPLES’ CHOICE PRIZE

The 2017 EY People’s Choice Prize of $5,000, as voted by visitors of the exhibition, was awarded to Lucy Humphrey for ‘Horizon’ .

The 2017 Rio Tinto Sculpture Inside Award of $5,000 can be received by any artist exhibiting in Sculpture Inside. The 2017 Sculpture Inside Award was awarded to Kozo Nishino from Japan for his work Sylth.
