Thompson Estate vineyard is celebrating its 5th year partnering with Sculpture by the Sea and has been impressing wine aficionados, critics and visitors to Sculpture by the Sea alike with their award winning range. Thompson Estate is delighted to announce that they have won a Gold Outstanding award in the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) for Thompson Estate Chardonnay 2013.

The Judges comments of the wine were:

Luminous straw yellow in colour with green flashes. A smoky start to the nose, struck match and bacon which swiftly turns to stone fruits, guava, nuts and a sprinkle of lime/lemon. It flows smoothly in the mouth, the high pitched acidity in absolute balance. Very complete. The palate is pure Margaret River, unmistakeable in profile.”

Following on from their recent international success at the London International Wine & Spirit Competition Thompson Estate have impressed experts back home with leading Australian wine critic James Halliday, awarding the winery again this year with the coveted 5 Red Star rating.

Thompson Estate Chardonnay 2013 has also received outstanding reviews in Decanter’s Margaret River Supplement for 2015. Result: 18 (93).

“Under the watchful eye of Bob Cartwright, who has been at Thompson Estate since he ‘retired’ as chief winemaker at Leeuwin Estate in 2005, Thompson Estate is, unsurprisingly, making top-notch Chardonnay. The 2013, which has swallowed up its 100% new oak, is fruit driven, stylish and very nicely put together. Drink 2015-2022 Alc 13.5%.”

To celebrate, Sculpture by the Sea and Thompson Estate are giving away a bottle of 2013 Chardonnay and a bottle of Thompson Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2011. To enter simply tell us in 25 words or less who you would like to enjoy a glass of this award winning wine with and why?
